EVALUATING PRIMARY RESEARCH
After completing this questionnaire on experiences with social media, I noticed a common pattern between the questions as I was asking people to answer them. For example, making friends through social media and arguing with someone on social media are factors which are most common and have been done by everyone I asked.
Also, I noticed that when asking people question 6, they would all laugh and answer with the same answer of 'no'. The way they laughed may have suggested that they are hiding this fact and decided to laugh it off and say 'no' so that they don't look as though they are addicted to having popularity and status on social media. However, this is also not valid or confirmed and could simply be everyone telling the truth.
Finally, the rest of the questions were a mixture of answers and some answers were more surprising than others. For example, for question 3 on impersonations, some people have experienced this in the past - this was something I didn't expect, because all the people who I asked the questions to were ordinary people who use social media for entertainment purposes.

THE EFFECT THAT INSTAGRAM HAS ON YOUNGER AUDIENCES MENTALLY
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-50129402
In this case study, we are taught more about the story of Molly Russell. She was a young girl who took her life at the age of 14 by committing suicide. Her parents have confirmed that social media was a huge impact on this (Instagram in particular) due to her instagram account being filled with graphic material linked to self harm and suicide. Instagram has been blamed for this due to the company being irresponsible about this situation and not doing much to fix it (the content is easier to access than it should be and it is easy to post about without having any consequences).
As a result, Molly's parents have made it a mission to do what they can to make the companies more responsible with situations as serious as this and gain recognition from this to ensure the lives of future children are protected.
Overall, Instagram has taken action from this situation by removing over 800,000 posts relating to suicide and self harm, however they are still acting on this to make the platform safer for all audiences.

CAT FISHING OWN CHILD TO SHOW DANGERS OF PREDATORS
In this video, we are shown 2 parents hiring a man to make a fake account of a potential predator to catfish their teenage daughter Mariah to see if she would fall for it. In the video, we are shown Mariah easily falling for him by replying to his messages instantly and agreeing to meet up with him in a local park to take photos.
As a result, Mariah is about to enter a van with 'Masons' friend until her parents stop her and explain everything to her.
This video taught us that predators are very smart and cunning when it comes to attracting younger people and that teenagers tend to struggle to see the dangers of meeting people from online due to them seeing all the nice things and losing track with whats important. For example, Mariah's interest in photography was the main reason why she agreed to meet 'Mason' since he had an interest in photography as well.
THE PROS AND CONS OF SOCIAL MEDIA
In this case study, we are taught more about the pros and cons of social media in a bit more detail. Examples of this includes:
PROS:
- Connect to other people from around the world
- Easy/instant communication
- Easy access to the latest news
- Ability to open a business through platforms
- Good source of Entertainment
CONS:
- Too much content/information at once
- Lack of privacy
- Peer pressure/cyber bullying
- Lack of face to face communication
- Increase in distractions/procrastination
EVALUATING SECONDARY RESEARCH
After researching and looking into different views and opinions on social media, I have learnt that social media has its positives and negatives on everyone and anyone around the world. Also, some negatives are harder to deal with compared to others and some of the negatives are still being fixed to this day to make the internet safer for everyone.
For example, for Molly's case study, we are shown how negative social media has on younger audiences and how people are still suffering to this day. However, we are also shown that Instagram have taken action/are still taking action to make the platform safer for younger audiences.
For Mariah's story, everyone is shown the negatives of social media, however everyone is also taught more about being careful on social media to ensure the dangers don't occur for them again (Mariah in particular).
Finally, the case study on the pros and cons of social media show us that social media has both its negatives and positives and that we should take all of them into consideration (not ignore the negatives).
